Things You Should Never Put in Your Dishwasher
There are many items that you should never put in your dishwasher. This is because they can damage the machine, or they simply don’t need to be washed in a dishwasher. Dishwashers are fantastic at cleaning dishes, silverware, pots, and pans – but there are some things that you should keep away from it! In this blog post, we will discuss some of the things that you should never put in your dishwasher.

One of the best ways to protect your dishwasher from harm is to use it correctly. That includes not washing things that shouldn’t be washed. Not only will you protect your dishwasher, but you’ll prevent damage to your items.
Some of the things that you should never put in your dishwasher include:
Wooden cutting boards or wooden utensils. Wood should not go in the dishwasher because it can warp or crack.
Non-stick cookware. Non-stick cookware can also be damaged in the dishwasher. The heat and water can cause the non-stick coating to peel off.
Cast iron pots and pans. Cast iron should not go in the dishwasher because it can rust.
Crystal glasses or dishes. Crystal can break in the dishwasher because of the heat and water pressure.
China with gold or silver trim. The metals can react with the detergent and cause discoloration.
Knives. Knives can get dull in the dishwasher. It’s best to hand wash them.
Silverware. Silverware can get tarnished in the dishwasher. It’s best to hand wash it.
Aluminum cookware. Aluminum can react with the detergent and cause discoloration.
Narrow-necked bottles. Water can get trapped inside and cause mold to grow. It’s unlikely a dishwasher will be able to adequately wash inside a narrow-necked bottle anyway.
And here are some surprising things you CAN put in your dishwasher:
BBQ grill elements. Get ready for summer fast by washing your bbq grill grate and utensils in the dishwasher!
Baseball caps and sneakers. Are your favorite athleisure items looking a little dingy? Throw them in the dishwasher!
Basketballs and other plastic or rubber sports equipment. We know athletic items can get dirty. Save yourself some hassle and wash these items using your dishwasher.
Blender parts. It’s always smart to take apart your blender after you use it and wash each piece separately. This will ensure your blender isn’t getting moldy between uses. But who has that kind of time? Take apart your blender and put the pieces in your dishwasher for an easy clean.
Legos and other plastic kid’s toys. Sanitize and clean your kids’ toys by throwing them in the dishwasher!
There are many things that you can put in your dishwasher and have it come out clean – but there are also some items that you should never put in there. Your dishwasher is not a miracle worker, and trying to wash something in it that shouldn’t be washed will only damage the item and the dishwasher.
